Despite a countless number of reports over the years — and one as late as March 2 of this year — stating that there would not be a sequel to 2004’s fan favorite Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, it seems Anchorman 2 is happening after all. Deadline just broke the news, reporting Judd Apatow will produce the flick and Adam McKay will direct as well as co-write the script with Will Ferrell. Ferrell, of course will also star. And so far both Steve Carell and Paul Rudd have signed on for the project.
In May of last year Ferrell confirmed what had already been reported– that no sequel would be made. “Anchorman 2, you really have to assert some sort of email hate campaign to Paramount Pictures,” he said. “They’ve told us, ‘We’ve run the numbers and it’s not a good fit.'”
UPDATE: Will Ferrell (as Ron Burgundy) announced the sequel on Conan, to be aired tonight on TBS. Here’s the segment!
