Conan O’Brien’s empire is expanding! Veteran comedian and Conan writer Deon Cole has landed a deal to host Deon Cole’s Black Box on TBS, home to Coco’s late-night show.
“[Cole] will invade America’s televisions each week to provide his take on some of the most outrageous video clips to pop up across the media landscape,” reads the network’s official show description. “Cole brings a truly unique point of view to his commentary as he uses clips to riff on racial and gender stereotypes, politics and more.” It sounds a lot like Comedy Central’s hit show Tosh.0, though you can’t fault another network for recognizing what viewers apparently want. The show, which is set for six episodes, will be executive produced by O’Brien’s production company Conaco. It’s scheduled to premiere some time next year.
TBS also greenlighted a series from Ashton Kutcher, tentatively titled Who Gets the Last Laugh? (Yes, another prank show from the former Mr. Demi Moore). But it sounds like it may give up and coming stand-up comedians some more exposure. The official logline reads: “[The show] puts a new twist on the comedy format by pitting two comedians against each other in the ultimate prank challenge. First, they must dream up the funniest and most outrageous pranks possible, then successfully unleash them on the public. A live audience then determines which comic really got the last laugh.” TBS ordered nine episodes, which will premiere in 2013, as well.
What do you guys think of TBS’ pair of new shows?
