Dane Cook’s single-camera comedy series Next Caller, wherein the hugely popular comedian plays a DJ at a satellite radio station, has been picked up by NBC, Cook confirms to Laughspin. The news comes after Cook struck a development deal with the network in September of last year; in March the Next Caller pilot project was announced.
Cook’s series is the sixth new comedy NBC picked up this season. It joins Matthew Perry’s Go On, 1600 Penn (Jenna Elfman, Bill Pullman, Josh Gad), Animal Practice (Justin Kirk), The New Normal, from Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy and starring Ellen Barkin and Justin Bartha and finally Save Me, starring Anne Heche.
