Although he’s likely been living with the disease for years and was officially diagnosed a month ago, longtime comedian Tommy Chong, best known as one half of Cheech & Chong, just announced he’s been battling prostate cancer. And the famous marijuana advocate, unsurprisingly, claims he’s fighting the disease with cannabis.

Instead of smoking marijuana, however, he currently ingests hemp oil before going to bed so, “I won’t be woozy all day,” he says. “I’m taking it as a medicine.” Chong says he quit smoking pot about a year ago.

“I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,” the 74-year-old told CNN’s Don Lemon, during an interview pegged to his ongoing support of marijuana legalization. “So (legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested.”

Chong says he first started noticing Cancer symptoms about eight years ago while he was jailed for selling drug paraphernalia. He said the cancer is “a slow stage one,” adding that he had been drug free for three years, during which time he began having prostate problems.
