Today, Ricky Gervais wrote a piece for The Huffington Post to explain the future of his current television projects, as well as to share some info on some upcoming series.
It seems Gervais is ending his HBO series The Ricky Gervais Show as well as his Science channel baby An Idiot Aborad, the Gervais-produced travel show starring Karl Pilkington– not after two more specials. He and collaborator Stephen Merchant are also working on a finale special for his other HBO show Life’s Too Short, which Ricky says will begin shooting shortly after Christmas and air around Easter. The special will feature appearances by Extras favorites Shaun Williams (“Barry off EastEnders!”), Les Dennis and Keith Chegwin.
Gervais’ new projects include a full, six episode season of comedy-drama Derek, based on the half-hour Channel 4 special that aired earlier this year. Lastly, Ricky, Karl and Stephen have plans to get together to record new audiobooks, and they will be filmed this time. Gervais is unsure whether they will be made for television or the Internet.
