Laughspin can confirm that comedian Tom Papa has been cast in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming Liberace biopic Behind The Candelabra, alongside Matt Damon, Michael Douglas and Dan Aykroyd. Papa will play Liberace’s manager and producer Ray Arnett; Douglas had been already cast as Liberace, while Damon will play Scott Thorson, the late musician’s partner and Aykroyd will play Liberace’s manager Seymour Heller. Rob Lowe is also rumored to be co-starring.
“There was no mistaking Liberace’s longtime stage manager and producer, Ray Arnett,” the Los Angeles Times wrote in 1994. “He was the glittery fellow in the rhinestone-studded tuxedo shirt, red bow tie and brown plaid suit.” This will be the second time Papa will co-star with Damon in a movie. The comedian and former Marriage Ref host played Mick Andreas, Damon’s high-strung, foul-mouthed boss in The Informant! in 2009. Deadline was the first to report Papa’s casting.
