Sure, he was one of the stars of obvious box office smash Madagascar 3 and was part of the ensemble cast of the big budget What to Expect When You’re Expecting earlier this year, but we all know Chris Rock also excels at nuanced, and more subtle fare; he’s proven himself a Broadway star, after all. And those acting chops are why we’re looking forward to the Aug. 10 release of 2 Days in New York, Julie Delpy’s latest, writing, directing and co-starring project.
The movie centers around Marion (Delpy), who has broken up with her boyfriend (whom we’ve last seen in Delpy’s 2007 flick 2 Days in Paris) and is now romancing Mingus (Rock). Marion’s family from France decides to visit: Enter conflict brought on by culture clashes, a perverted ex-boyfriend and insane father.
