Aubrey Plaza, Sofia Vergara lead ALMA nominations in comedy

Nominees for the ALMA Awards – honoring Latino talent in television, film, and music — have just been announced, and comedy fan favorite Aubrey Plaza has snagged two nods— one for her role in this summer’s Safety Not Guaranteed in the category of Favorite Movie Actress (Comedy/Musical) and one for her role as April in Parks and Recreation in the category of Favorite TV Actress (Comedy). Plaza is of Puerto Rican (half), Irish and English descent.

But Plaza’s got some stiff competition in the form Colombian-born Sofia Vergara was also nominated for Best TV Actress for her work on Modern Family. Vergara also picked up a nod for her supporting role in The Three Stooges remake. Vergara’s onscreen son Rico Rodriguez is nominated for his supporting role; he’ll be facing off against The Office’s Oscar Nunez, among others.

The man known as Fluffy Guy in the comedy world scored a nomination for his Comedy Central show Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution in the category of Favorite TV Reality, Variety, or Comedy Personality or Act. And after only two episodes of Anger Management, Charlie Sheen (real name: Carlos Irwin Estevez) has been nominated for Favorite TV Actor.
