Matt Braunger will unleash his first ever hour-long stand-up special, Shovel Fighter, on Comedy Central this Saturday at 11 pm ET. This is something we’ve been highly anticipating ever since the release of his stellar album Soak Up the Night in 2009. (Read our interview with him here).
To get you, dear Laughspinners, properly pumped for this weekend’s premiere, allow us to gift you with a trio of previews. Each one starts with an ad for Lonelyman Dinners, the last of which is deserving of a goddamn Oscar.
But, wait. The fun isn’t over yet. The uncut and uncensored version of Shovel Fighter (featuring 15 minutes of stand-up not seen on television) will drop July 17, with a shit-ton of bonus features, including the Lonelyman Dinners commercials, a behind-the-scenes look at the special and the comedian’s pitch for the actual special. The special also will be available the same day in HD on Xbox LIVE and Sony PlayStation Network, and in Standard Definition on iTunes and Samsung Media Hub.
Ok, we’re still not done. The digital album version of Shovel Fighter — recorded in Portland (the special was recorded in New York City) — will also be available on July 17. That’s a lot of Braunger, you guys. But we wouldn’t want it any other way.
