The prolific Eddie Izzard has gotten his leather-heeled foot inside yet another unexpected door. After years of a successful and unconventional comedy and acting career, followed by his Marathon Man buzz, Izzard will now become an associate director of Crystal Palace Football Club, an English Football League team based in South Norwood, London.

In case we’re not on the same page, remember Izzard is a British comedian and actor, stylishly pulling off leather pants and bright red lipstick is among his myriad talents; “football” is what everyone else calls soccer, and the sport is quite popular across the pond.

The comedian has been a fan of Crystal Palace since childhood, and he took to the clubs website today to address fans. “In this one area I am still like the teenager I was in the 70s, living and dying every week for the football games I was playing myself or watching Palace play,” he said.

“I have circled the idea of trying to do something to help Palace for years and now I’m in,” he added. “What I can actually do – I’m not sure. But if you know anything about me, I am a determined bastard and I don’t like to give in.”

According to Crystal Palace, “an Associate Directorship includes full hospitality in the Boardroom at every home game for two guests and is a fantastic way to enjoy football.” Essentially, the title is a way for fans to support the team financially and get a few perks in return. As far as what the comic actor hopes for the team this year, “All I really want is for Crystal Palace to win every game from now until the end of time. That’s all,” he said. “I know that’s a tough thing to ask but that really is what I want.”

Izzard’s signing up is a great opportunity for publicity for the club, and they are “delighted to have him on board.” Palace Chief Executive Phil Alexander said, “I am delighted that Eddie has signed up to be an associate director at Palace. He is an iconic entertainer and we hope that he can find enough time during his busy year to attend as many games as possible.”
