Mindy Kaling will have her hands full this fall as the writer, producer and star of her new Fox sitcom The Mindy Project, but she’s not ready to fully join her co-stars BJ Novak, Paul Lieberstein and James Spader in their departure from The Office. Vulture reports that Kaling has signed on to do at least two episodes of the upcoming ninth season. Unless we find out later that she’s signed on for more, though, presumably these two episodes will set up her character Kelly’s departure.

The upcoming Mindy Project stars Kaling as a young doctor who is trying to balance her promising professional life with a rocky personal life. The project stars Kaling, Anna Camp (True Blood), Chris Messina (Six Feet Under), Stephen Tobolowsky (Spaceballs, Groundhog’s Day), Amanda Setton, Ed Weeks and Zoe Jarman. Her Office co-star Ed Helms has a recurring role, as well as Bill Hader and Ike Barinholtz. Check out the trailer below.

The Office returns to NBC on Sept, 20; The Mindy Project premieres on Fox Sept. 25. But get this. You’ll be able to catch the premiere episode online — through Yahoo, Hulu, AOL, MSN, Fox.com, Facebook, Xfinity — from Aug. 27 to Sept. 9.
