Mostly known for his role as the Senior Black Correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Larry Wilmore is set to film his own comedy special for cable giant Showtime. And although Wilmore is a seasoned stand-up, the upcoming event Race, Religion & Sex — set to air Aug. 25 — will offer a variation from the typical cable comedy offering.

Instead of simply slinging jokes, Wilmore will travel to Salt Lake City to moderate a town-hall “meeting that seeks to enlighten viewers about the birthplace of Mormonism,” President David Nevins explains. And get this: if all goes well, this special may turn into Wilmore’s own series on the network.

For now, let’s check out Wilmore in action on the Daily Show.

This is awesome news, I’ve never seen Larry work on his own but it worked for Jon Hodgman so why not Larry Wilmore?
