Jim Gaffigan will headline the sixth annual Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival, set to take over venues around Asheville, NC from Aug. 14 to 18.

The hugely popular comedian  will play the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Thursday as part of “The America Tour,” and Ryan Singer (who’s album landed in our Top 10 Albums of Year list in 2010) is at the Altamont Theater on Friday. The festival attracts comics from around the country, with over 400 submissions coming in over the past months to fill the 60 available performer spots this year. Other featured performers include Nate Craig, Tom Simmons, Tim Northern, Seaton Smith, Matt Fulchiron, and M. Dickson. You can see the full line up and purchase tickets through Laughstub.

The largest comedy festival in the Southeast, LYAO has seen rapid growth over the past few years. But festival producers have dedicated themselves to “keeping the festival format non-competitive for the talent, showcasing the best stand-up comics for the audience, engaging the local community for exposure and maintaining affordable ticket prices for the community,” reports the Examiner.

Affordable? Definitely. (And that comes from a very poor comedy fan.) Tickets for individual shows range from just $10 to $18, with a showcase package ticket for just $60. Engaging the local community? The festival kicks off on Tuesday with the “Local Laughs for Brother Wolf” charity show at the Magnetic Field. All door proceeds will be donated to Asheville’s Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. You can get all the info you need at the festival’s official site; and buy your tickets through Laughstub.
