After four seasons on the iconic sketch show, Abby Elliott will not be returning to Saturday Night Live next season. Although NBC declined to comment on Elliott’s status, Laughspin has independently confirmed her departure.
Elliott joins Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, who will also not return to NBC– after six and seven seasons, respectively. Elliott’s leaving — which SplitSider reported first — comes at a time when Jason Sudeikis’ future at SNL is unknown. He was widely expected to leave after last season, but hasn’t made an announcement either way. At most, he’s hinted at his non-return in a recent Men’s Journal interview, wherein he says, “I’ve left places before. This is very, very different…Goodbyes are tough,” describing SNL as “an amazing job and a horrible job.”
Samberg and Wiig have plenty of upcoming movie and television projects to keep them as busy or even more than they were on Saturday Night Live. By comparison, a glance at Elliott’s future roles seems a bit stark. Check out Elliott in action below on Weekend Update as Angelina Jolie.
