Patton Oswalt delivered the keynote address at last month’s Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. And since that day (July 26) the comedy world has been buzzing about Oswalt’s dual message– one to his fellow comedians and the other to the gatekeepers– producers, executives and other vaguely-titled suits. Oswalt reads a letter to each group of folks, and in doing so establishes (in my humble opinion, anyway) innumerable reasons artists need to keep creating and the so-called arbiters of art need to step back.
