As Saturday Night Live enters its third week of its thirty-eighth season, one of its former veterans Andy Samberg debuted his new project Cuckoo in the UK— and the results were record breaking. On the show, Samberg plays an American hippie-type who marries into a straight-laced British family, who, as you could’ve guessed, do not approve of their daughter’s union.
The premiere last night on BBC Three drew slightly over one million viewers, breaking the record for the network’s most watched comedy show premiere. British comedian Jack Whitehall – who’s had some moderate success in the States – held the previous record when his new show Bad Education debuted last month to 830,000 viewers. If these numbers seem low to you, remember the population in the United States is about five times that of the entire UK.
