Whenever I hear a reference to identity theft, I’m immediately reminded of the third track from Joe DeRosa’s album The Depression Auction, wherein he passionately opines that the immense number of identity theft prevention ads and commercials is grossly disproportionate to the actual cases of the crime. And so when I heard about the premise of the forthcoming, plainly titled Identity Theft with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, I was skeptical.
And after watching the just-released trailer, I haven’t been convinced otherwise. Don’t get me wrong. It looks like the flick – set to premiere Feb. 8 – is a fast-paced, light-hearted laughfest. But that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be totally stupid. In it, Bateman plays a well-to-do guy who wears suits and McCarthy is the slovenly, aesthetically out-of-date mush of a woman who steals his identity. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
