Rainn Wilson’s highly anticipated Office spinoff The Farm has been killed and will, instead, go the way of another one of the network’s false starts The Munsters. Just like the classic show, which, in lieu of the expected full series reboot was aired as a one-off Halloween special last week, Wilson’s all-things-Dwight sitcom will run as an episode during The Office‘s current and final season.
Wilson seems to be taking the news well. “Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show,” Wilson tweeted. “Had a blast making the pilot – onwards & upwards!”
The network’s decision comes in the midst of many other scheduling shifts: Dane Cook’s upcoming Next Caller was canceled after shooting four episodes but before one even aired. Freshman sitcom Animal Practice was cancelled due to poor ratings and is being replaced by the second season of Whitney mid-season. And cult favorite Community, which was scheduled to return Oct. 19, still has no premiere date for its fourth season.
