Stephen Colbert may be the most famous fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, the brilliant mind behind the Lord of the Rings books. But just in case everyone doesn’t know it yet, he’s going to prove it next week when the Colbert Report kicks off an entire week of shows dedicated to director Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of The Hobbit, the book Tolkien wrote before the LOTR trilogy.
To prep for the Dec. 14 release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey theatrical release on Dec. 14, Colbert will welcome Sir Ian McKellen (who plays the wizard Gandalf) this coming Monday, Dec. 3; Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) on Dec. 4; Jackson on Dec. 5 and Andy Serkis (Gollum/Sméagol) on Dec. 6.
On a few occasions, Colbert has explored his love for all things Tolkien on the Colbert Report. You can check out one of those instances below, wherein Elijah Wood (Frodo in the LOTR movies) guested on the show. Enjoy!
