One year from this very day, Ron Burgundy will once again loom larger than life on big screens across the country. That’s right, folks. Paramount Pictures has a announced that Anchorman 2 has an official release date: Dec. 20, 2013. And all the key players of your favorite 1970s San Diego news crew — Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner — are back to reprise their roles from the original 2004 hit flick.
Adam McKay, whose back to write and direct, has implied the KVWN-TV Channel 4 Evening News team will engage in full song-and-dance numbers this time around. And producer Judd Apatow has confirmed Christina Applegate will, in fact, return to portray Vernonica Corningstone. While it’s too early to speculate on how the exact plot to the sequel will play out, McKay did tease us a bit in April when he talked to Salon. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I’ll just give a couple pieces of ideas that we’ve kicked around,” he said. “Keep in mind we’re still writing the story, but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars.”
Regardless of plot, we’re sure the return of Anchorman will meet true fans’ expectations. For the time being, let’s review the official trailer and then Burgundy’s March appearance on Conan.
