UPDATE: Jan. 7
Here’s some more clips from the interview, which aired last night! In the videos below, Letterman talks about his battle with depression, apologizing to Justin Bieber for remarks he made about the young pop star, why he didn’t get the Tonight Show gig, his open heart surgery and much more!
As one of the most private, media shy entertainers, it makes sense that only Oprah Winfrey could convince Late Show host David Letterman to sit for what appears to be an incredibly intimate and personal interview. On a new episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter, Letterman talks to Winfrey about a great many things, one of which is the sex scandal in which he found himself in 2009, just six months after marrying his longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko. It was then he admitted to her and to his viewing audience that he had sex with a Late Show staffer.
“I have no one to blame but myself,” he tells Oprah during the interview. “Now, I feel better about myself. My relationship with my wife is never better—just because I want to be the person I always thought I was, and probably was pretending I was. And so far, things have been great. I hurt a lot of people. I have nobody to blame but myself. I’m not looking to blame anyone. I’m looking to find out why I behaved the way I behaved.”
You can watch the clip below.
Letterman also opens up about his ongoing battle with late night competitor Jay Leno. And while Letterman admits that Jay is the funniest person he knows, he also says he’s the most insecure. Check it out below.
