Hot on the heels of their Grammy nominated album Rize of the Fenix, Tenacious D – Jack Black and Kyle Gass – have announced plans to curate a comedy music festival this Fall! “We’re working on a festival, called Festival Supreme,” Black tells Rolling Stone. “It’s gonna be a meeting of the minds. It’s gonna be like Mount Rockmore.”
Black says he’s already reached out to Flight of the Conchords to join the fest and has many other musically-inclined comedians and comedically-inclined musicians in mind: Lonely Island, Zach Galifianakis, Spinal Tap, Eric Idle, Tim Minchin, Neil Hamburger, Tim and Eric, Trey Parker and Matt Stone from South Park all have an invite. “[And] Mr. Show—they’ve got incredible songs,” Black adds.
The event is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 19 in Los Angeles, at the Santa Monica Pier. Circle that in your calendar. “Now there’s no guarantee who’s gonna be on the bill,” Black warns. “It might just be Tenacious D and Weird Al. But that’s a long ways off.”
Adds, Gass: “It’s just a fuckin’ Super Bowl of comedy-rock.”
