As promised, comedian Andy Andrist revealed a video on Super Bowl Sunday of himself and friend, Doug Stanhope confronting Andrist’s childhood molester. It turns out, however, the video is not a one-off but rather a small part of a larger documentary about Andrist coming to terms with his molester Stephen P. Spleen of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
In the video, Andrist explains why, in part, he decided to confront Spleen on tape. “I want other people who have been molested to go, ‘Oh, yeah I should look up my guy’ … They’ve done their damage and they need to be brought out into the light,” he says. “Just because you got away with it legally, doesn’t make it ok. And I want people who have been molested kind of take the shame and plant it where it belongs— on the person who victimized him.”
According to a story about a related court proceeding, Andrist has Spleen, 67, on tape admitting to his crime, though that portion is not featured in the just-released video, which you can watch below.
