It's official: Kristen Wiig joins the cast of Anchorman sequel
With 318 days left until the sequel of Anchorman hits big screens nationwide, Saturday Night Live alum and Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig has joined the cast of the most anticipated comedy flick of 2013. “Kristen Wiig is officially on board for Anchorman 2. Couldn’t be more excited,” the film’s producer Adam McKay announced on his Facebook page.
Wiig joines the already-meaty cast, which includes all of the key players of your favorite 1970s San Diego news crew: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Christina Applegate.
As we reported in December, the sequel, titled Anchorman: The Legend Continues, will likely include some song-and-dance numbers. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I’ll just give a couple pieces of ideas that we’ve kicked around,” McKay said in April of last year, teasing the future of the KVWN-TV Channel 4 Evening News team. “Keep in mind we’re still writing the story, but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars.”
So, what type of character do you think Wiig will play? Will she try to force Veronica Corningstone out of a job? Will she be an oddball love interest for Carell’s character, the seriously damaged Brick Tamland? Let us know what you think!
