To kick off the third annual Gilda’s Laughfest in Grand Rapids yesterday, organizers attempted to break the Guinness world record for – wait for it – the largest gathering of people wearing fake mustaches. And while the folks at Guinness will need to certify those efforts, officials counted 1,544 people with fake mustaches, breaking the previous record of 648, which went down last year at a St Louis Rams event.

The festival, which benefits the Grand Rapids chapter of Gilda’s Club, which provides support for cancer patients and their families, will run through March 17. Scheduled performers include Lewis Black, Bill Burr, Brian Regan, Joel McHale and many more. Check out laughfestgr.org for more info.

Awesome! If it’s not packed to the gills, you’ll have to visit HopCat for local brews and the best fries in town.
