To properly induct Justin Timberlake into the Five-Timers Club last night, Saturday Night Live invited back a teeming handful of all-time favorite hosts. Already-christened members of the club Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen and Tom Hanks all appeared during Timberlake’s monologue (which really wasn’t a monologue). Joining them was Paul Simon and Martin Short — both of whom hosted three times — as well as original castmember and one-time host Dan Aykroyd.
Interesting sidenote about Simon: he’s considered a member of the club due to his multiple appearances as a musical guest, even though he’s only hosted three times. Hence, the reason he was wearing the official smoking jacket last night. Five-time hosts Drew Barrymore and John Goodman were represented last night in another way while SNL writer Mike O’Brien even gets some screen time. Interesting sidenote no. 2: Remaining members of the Five-Timers Club are Elliot Gould, Danny DeVito and Christopher Walken. None of them were mentioned last night. See how it all played out below.
