It turns out Amy Poehler is huge in Sweden. She and her brother Greg just sold a comedy series called Welcome to Sweden, which will air on TV4 in the Nordic nation. The show is part of the sibling’s newly launched production company Syskon, who’s mission is to develop half-hour comedies.
The series is based on Greg’s life as an accountant in New York who ends up moving to Sweden for the girl he loves. Greg will star – its his acting debut – alongside Lena Olin (a Swedish actor who’s been successful in the States), Illeana Douglas and Patrick Duffy, along with a group of Swedish actors. The show will be pitched to networks in the United States.
“I’m so happy to work with my talented brother Greg and the terrific Swedish actors who have joined us,” Amy Poehler said. “Hopefully this helps us decide once and for all who is our parents’ favorite child.”
Although this is the first show produced through Syskon, Poehler is also executive producing the upcoming Comedy Central series Broad City. Poehler stars on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, which aired its fifth season finale last Thursday. There’s no word yet on whether the show will be renewed for a sixth season.
