After a year of back-and-forth over the future of HBO’s baseball-themed comedy series Eastbound & Down, the network announced today the show’s upcoming fourth season will be its last. Cast and crew, including star Danny McBride, are currently amassing in North Carolina where they’ll begin shooting the final eight episodes tomorrow. Produced by Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Jody Hill and Adam McKay, season four is set to premiere Sept. 29.

McBride has been promoting the movie This is the End (out June 12), in which he appears with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill (among many other comedy types). He’ll also be seen in Larry David’s movie Clear History, which premieres Aug. 10 on HBO. Last night he stopped by The Tonight show with Jay Leno, where he briefly mentions the news season of Eastbound & Down, but doesn’t let on about it being its last. “We were planning on being done after three but HBO wanted us to do another season,” McBride tells Leno, “and we had some ideas of what we’d do with another season.” Check out his full appearance below.
