Immensely talented musical comedian Tim Minchin has been tapped to write the score and lyrics for the upcoming DreamWorks animated film Larrikins, about a bilby (a type of marsupial) who leaves his family and sets out on an adventure across the Australian outback.

“I was lucky enough to grow-up in Western Australia and know that the Australian outback is vast and spell-binding and heart-stoppingly beautiful,” Minchin says, adding, “the characters that inhabit it are unique and hilarious and tough and cheeky. It’s going to be bloody good fun.’”

Minchin most recently wrote the music for the Broadway musical Matilda, which was up for 12 Tony awards last night. Unfortunately, Minchin didn’t win. If you’re not familiar with Minchin’s work, check out the video below, taken from his live DVD Are You Ready For This?
