As if news that Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell was going daily – instead of just every Thursday – wasn’t exciting enough, Laughspin can exclusively reveal that Brian McCann, who worked with Conan O’Brien for 17 years, has joined the FX show as a producer and writer. “I couldn’t be more excited to round out the diverse and talented staff at Totally Biased by supplying the rare ‘Irish White guy’ voice so often ignored in Late Night,” McCann quips about his new post on the buzzed-about series.

McCann helped develop O’Brien’s original show on NBC, Late Night as well as The Tonight Show and most recently Conan on TBS. So beloved was McCann, who served as a writer and very frequent player of absurd characters on O’Brien’s shows, that Coco dedicated an entire retrospective segment to him in August of last year. “He’s been a huge part of this kooky journey to become incredibly silly every night,” O’Brien said. You can watch the heartfelt send-off below.

The Emmy-winning McCann, who’s racked up six Writers Guild Awards for outstanding comedy writing, will join an already stellar crew including executive producers Chris Rock, Chuck Sklar and Keri Smith-Esguia as well as writers Kevin Avery, Ethan T. Berlin, Guy Branum, Janine Brito, Ned Goldreyer, Kevin Kataoka, Dwayne Kennedy, Hari Kandabolu and Aparna Nancherla.

“In 1995 my Chicago Bulls knew they were one piece away from a championship,” Bell says. “They shocked the world by acquiring Dennis Rodman, best known for his incredible rebounding, his will to win, and his unpredictability. Totally Biased has just acquired Brian McCann, best known for his incredible run with Conan O’Brien, his will to get laughter at any cost, and his unpredictability. He is our Dennis Rodman. We are now ready to win.”

Totally Biased will begin broadcasting five nights a week on FX’s sister network FXX, which launches Sept. 2.
