Because of the wild success of his book Dad is Fat, comedian Jim Gaffigan has just signed a seven-figure deal to write his second, Laughspin can exclusively report. The new collection of essays — as yet untitled — will hit stores and online retailers next year and will be published by Crown Archetype, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group at Random House. It will be available in the United States and in Canada in both print and digital formats.
While Dad is Fat revolves around Gaffigan’s life as a husband and father of five young children, living in a walk-up apartment in New York City, the new book’s emphasis will be on food, a topic fans know dominates Gaffigan’s stellar stand-up shows. “Working with Jim Gaffigan and his team on his bestselling book, Dad is Fat, was such a pleasure that we couldn’t wait to sign him up for another book on the topic people most love to hear him talk about: food,” says Tina Constable, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Crown Archetype.
Dad is Fat debuted at number five on the New York Times best sellers list, claimed the number four spot in its best week and has remained on the list for six weeks. Alomst 115,000 copies have been sold. “Working with Crown was a delight,” says Gaffigan. “I haven’t been hungry in 10 years.”
