When they announced in May their intention to bring stand-up comedy to movie theaters across the country, NMC Fathom Events and New Wave Entertainment kept quiet about which comedians would participate. But today we can reveal that Sinbad is up first. Sinbad: Make Me Wanna Holla – described as “a night of comedy and funk” – will hit theaters for one night, Aug. 22. The 90-minute performance was recorded in the comedian’s hometown of Detroit and will play in approximately 475 theaters nationwide at 8 pm local time. You can buy tickets here.

We hear there are plans to simulcast future stand-up comedy concerts; a comedian would perform live in front of an audience in one location while its broadcast live in select theaters. Sinbad’s last special, Where U Been? — his first in 10 years — was broadcast on Comedy Central in February of 2010.
