Comedy Central is on the prowl, looking for the best unknown stand-up comedian. This week, the network announced its nationwide competition, Up Next: A CC Certified Talent Search. Held in conjunction with its Certified Club program, the competition will begin in September with the preliminary round, pitting local comedians against one another at each of the participating 26 clubs in order to find an individual to represent each joint at the four regional semi-finals (check out the schedule here.) Once the top two are chosen from each of the four semi-finals, they’ll be shuttled off to perform at the New York Comedy Festival’s “Comics to Watch” showcase on Nov. 6. Each of the eight sets (yes, four clubs x two winners = eight finalists) will be recorded and presented on Comedy Central’s channel 96 SiriusXM and comedycentral.com from Nov 11 to 15, giving fans the opportunity to vote online and to crown the ultimate champion.
The grand prize winner will receive a performance in an upcoming Comedy Central college tour, a guest DJ spot on Comedy Central’s SiriusXM (includes airing of their winning performance); inclusion on cc.com/standup and the CC: Stand-Up App; a Comedy Central Records digital release; $2,500 cash and an appearance on a future Comedy Central stand-up series. Comedian Jonah Ray — he of Nerdist podcast fame — will host the four semi-finals and the final showdown at Carolines on Broadway.
