After a summer in the Middle East directing his first film, Jon Stewart returned to hosting duties last night at The Daily Show. Viewers were treated to an extended intro that found interim host John Oliver and correspondent Jessica Williams desperately attempting to transform Stewart into his old self; it seems the Middle East changed the show’s fearless leader. In the end, though, only one man could do the job. Check out the action below, as well as Stewart’s opening segment on Syria.

John Oliver killed it so much I have mixed feelings for Stewart’s return. It’s like being told the wife you love is murdered, moving on, getting a new hot girlfriend and then finding out your wife was merely in coma and is coming back home. I married Stewart, but Oliver was such a fun fling.
