Simpsons fans are on notice: one of their beloved characters will be killed off. Executive producer Al Jean told The Hollywood Reporter that a character will pass away in either this season or in next year’s season 26.
“We are doing this story for the same reason we do all others– we think it has a good emotional through line,” Jean commented. The news marks a major point for the Fox animated comedy. In its 25 seasons, not including the “Treehouse of Horror” episodes or various incarnations of Snowball pets, the series has only seriously killed off a few characters including Maude Flanders, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Fat Tony, Homer’s mother Mona Simpson, C.W. McAllister, Homer’s Vegas wife Amber and Frank Grimes.
The only clue given for the new death is that “the actor playing the character won an Emmy” for that role. That surely narrows down the list…some. There are 23 characters whose voice actor won an Emmy for that role. Clearly, the Simpsons staff have no desire to make it easy for us to guess. Who do you think will be knocked off the longest-running primetime series on television?
