As we anxiously await HBO’s Nov. 23 premiere of Sarah Silverman’s first stand-up comedy special — We Are Miracles — in eight years, here’s a bit of information that should make comedy fans smile: the veteran comedian has just inked a deal to co-star alongside Topher Grace in a new pilot for HBO. Dubbed People in New Jersey, the show follows the lives of brother and sister as they trudge through life. Silverman plays Melanie Levin, who “is an extremely driven closet optimist who works part-time at a department store. She is is involved with a man in what her mother describes as a ‘half-relationship,'” according to TV Line. Grace plays Carl Levin, “an affable (and single) locksmith who has a definite idea of how things and people should be and when the world doesn’t conform to his vision, he resists mightily.”

The half-hour pilot is being produced by Saturday Night Live honcho Lorne Michaels and is being directed by Paul Feig– he of Freaks and Geeks and Bridesmaids fame. The siblings’ mother will be played by Broadway actress Patti LuPone.
