Former Happy Endings star Eliza Coupe inks deal with USA Network

Since the underrated comedy Happy Endings got axed, we haven’t seen as much Eliza Coupe on television as we’d like. Hopefully that’s going to change soon. It seems the actress, who played control-freak Jane on 57 episodes of the ABC series, has inked a pilot presentation deal with USA Network for a show called Benched. Coupe would star as a corporate attorney named Nina who’s obsessed with her career— so obsessed, in fact, that she has a nervous breakdown in public upon being skipped over for a promotion. She ends up settling for a public defender position and begins to learn that the law looks a lot different from the other side. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Michaela Watkins is writing the script and Party Down co-creator John Enbom has been tapped to be the showrunner.

If the show is greenlighted, it would mark USA Network’s first straight comedy. The network has found success with shows like White Collar, Psych and Royal Pains, which are all dramas sprinkled with humor.
