FX announces fifth season of Archer premiere date, moving to Mondays

Not that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed watching the first three seasons on Netflix and the fourth season via DVR over and over again for the past six months, but FX has finally released the season five premiere date for Archer. And that date is Jan. 13 at 10 pm ET. If you’re a robot, you will have immediately recognized that date as a Monday and not a Thursday, the day on which Archer usually airs. That’s right. Archer will now air at the start of the week with freshman animated series Chozen following at 10:30 pm ET.

While change hurts sometimes, you guys, I have to say that I think this makes sense. First, back-to-back animation has historically been a smart programming choice (Sunday nights on Fox, anyone?) Also, it seems Thursdays are the biggest night for what I’d like to consider discerning comedy fans. Last season some of the best shows crowded that night; I’m talking Archer, Community, Parks and Recreation, Totally Biased and Legit. So, placing Archer on Mondays avoids those potential conflicts with NBC’s comedy programming.

And speaking of Legit, FX says the second season of the stellar Jim Jefferies series will premiere sometime in February on newly launched sister channel FXX, which is where Totally Biased – now five nights a week – The League and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia now call home.
