Maya Rudolph will return to primetime in post-Olympics variety show

Bridesmaids star Maya Rudolph will return to NBC this winter with an all-new variety show. The pilot for the project would air as a special after the Winter Olympics. If it premieres to much acclaim and fanfare, assumedly NBC would order a full-season run of episodes. Lorne Michaels, producing another of his Saturday Night LIve alum’s projects, has been working with Rudolph on this for several months when Up All Night, which Rudolph co-starred in, did not go into reshoots. It would be exciting to see her on television regularly after her seven-year stint at SNL wehre her impersonations of Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Oprah, and Michelle Obama made her a popular cast member.

Hopefully the variety show won’t rob us of her hilarious appearances in movies, most recently Grown Ups 2 and The Way Way Back.
