Eddie Izzard strikes a deal with NBC

Eddie Izzard has struck a pact with NBC, which finds the iconic comedian in a one-year “holding deal.” This means he’ll get an ex executive producing credit if he’s cast as the lead in a series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. What’s interesting about the deal is that Izzard, although a seasoned stand-up comedian, can play dramas just as well. He co-starred with Minnie Driver in the severely underrated dark comedy The Riches on FX and was recently featured on two episodes of NBC’s drama Hannibal. Keeping in mind NBC’s habit of slating cult favorite comedies like Community and Parks and Recreation – both of which rate relatively poorly – it wouldn’t be surprising if Izzard aligned himself with a promising new drama or psychological thriller, genres in which the network performs much better.
