After announcing earlier this week that it has (finally) hired a black female cast member, Sasheer Zamata, Saturday Night Live hired two new black, female writers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Leslie Jones and LaKendra Tookes will join the talented staff of the long-running sketch show. Tookes (pictured right), is a former news reporter and one of the women who auditioned on a super secret showcase in LA last month. You can see a character reel of the comic below; she’s a trained improviser, with an arsenal of impressions, including Oprah Winfrey, Wendy Williams and Paula Deen.
Jones is a veteran stand-up comic who also auditioned for the coveted “emergency” black female cast member slot. She’s appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, Chelsea Lately, Mind of Mencia, and has had an hour-long Showtime special. You can read our interview with Leslie from 2010 here. And check her out below!
