For the past five years, comedians Brendan McLaughlin and David Smithyman have been producing one of the best DIY comedy shows in New York. It’s appropriately titled We’re Nice People; the goal was to produce shows with great up-and-coming acts as well as established comics in a fun, friendly atmosphere.

To an outsider, it may seem like an easy task— producing a monthly show. But it’s not. You’re constantly competing against dozens of other live shows on any given night, you have to book the comics, you have to get an audience and you have to be sure you bring enough cocaine for everyone (or something). So to celebrate five years of We’re Nice People, McLaughlin and Smithyman have announced a special five-year anniversary show. It’s going down Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 9:30 pm at the show’s regular location, Parkside Lounge (317 E. Houston St.).

The two comics will welcome the likes of Sara Schaefer, Emmy Blotnick, Sheng Weng and surprise guests! Hey, watch McLaughlin and Smithyman in the below video, wherein they explain everything I just explained.
