The final seat in NBC’s late night game of musical chairs has been filled. Producer Lorne Michaels has selected his head writer Colin Jost to succeed Seth Meyers behind the Weekend Update desk on Saturday Night Live. Meyers exits the show to take over Late Night from Jimmy Fallon on Feb. 1. Comedian Jost is scheduled to join Cecily Strong as co-anchor on March. 1. The choice couldn’t have surprised too many people, as this is the third consecutive time the SNL head writer has become the co-anchor of Weekend Update. Seth Meyers was the head writer of the show when he took the chair, as was Tina Fey before him.
Jost joined the writing staff right after graduating from Harvard when he was 22. The stand-up comic has helped grow some of the beloved recurring Weekend Update characters, such as Drunk Uncle and The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party.
