We reported back in November that beloved Daily Show with Jon Stewart correspondent John Oliver would leave the Comedy Central program to host his own weekly show on HBO. The premium cable network announced that Last Week Tonight With John Oliver will debut on Sunday, April 27. The half-hour show will run weekly at 11pm EST following Veep and newcomer Silicon Valley. Oliver had appeared on The Daily Show from 2006-2013, including serving as fill-in host during the summer of 2013 while Jon Stewart took a temporary leave to direct the feature film Rosewater. A press release from HBO describes Last Week Tonight as a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events. But when asked for more about the show’s format, Oliver has only said, “It will be me making fun of things.”
