Last night Jimmy Fallon made television history as he began his job as the sixth host of The Tonight Show. Decked in a gray suit and dark-blue tie, the former Late Night host took to the New York City studio’s stage and delivered an incredibly humble, sincere intro. He recognized the Tonight Show hosts that came before him, listing Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Leno (again).

He gave props to his parents (who were in the audience) as and to his longtime band The Roots and show announcer Steve Higgins, who he called one of his best friends. “I hope I do well. I hope you enjoy this,” Fallon eventually told the audience, adding, “If you guys let me stick around for a while I might get the hang of it.”
