All sorts of comedy-related festivals have been popping up: musical comedy festivals, podcast festivals, sketch fests and the like. A new comedy festival in Iowa running March 28 – 30, is excited to present what has been branded as “alternative comedy” to the masses. The Green Gravel Comedy Fest will feature nationally recognized acts like Jackie Kashian and Kevin McDonald as well as local sketch troupes. There will be a mixture of ticketed and free events. Iowans can catch acts like Ryan Singer and Junior Stopka (frequent openers for Marc Maron and Doug Stanhope, respectively). McDonald will even do a free Q&A about his Kids In The Hall days. Other free events include sketch group The Dog and Pony Show, the Misinformation Podcast and Mat Alano-Martin’s workshop on the history of stand-up. Tickets are now available at www.greengravelcomedyfest.com.
