Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is currently being investigated for making incredibly racist statements during a phone call to his girlfriend V. Stiviano, who, ironically is black and Mexican. The recorded was unearthed by TMZ last night and ever since the Internet has been abuzz with theories and opinions and there’s even a #BoycottClippers hashtag trending highly on Twitter. While TMZ has committed to the idea it was most certainly Sterling on the recording, the NBA has taken a more innocent-until-proven-guilty approach. The NBA’s executive vice president of communication, Mike Bass said, “The remarks heard on the recording are disturbing and offensive, but at this time we have no further information,” adding that the league is conducting a “full investigation.” You can listen to the full audio below. It is, of course, not safe for work.
The thing that started this discourse between Sterling and his girlfriend was that Stiviano posted a photo of herself with NBA legend Magic Johnson on Instagram; the photo has since been removed from her account, which has nearly 119,000 followers. On her Instagram account she describes herself as “Artist, Lover, Writer, Chef, Poet,Stylist, Philanthropist.” In the recording, Sterling says things like, “”It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” and also, “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.” But perhaps most absurd is this one: “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.”
Since we here at Laughspin enjoy filtering our news, no matter how gross it is, through humor, we thought we’d post our favorite comedian responses to the Donald Sterling news. Here they are. Enjoy!
After listening to Donald Sterling's racist rant I have to go watch Django Unchained to lighten the mood.

Why are people shocked that an “owner” of a basketball team might be racist? I’m just surprised he didn’t use the word “Mandingo”.

Ladies… we’ve all been V. Stiviano. When a man is that fine, with a face that natural and abs that tight… its easy to miss the racism.

Please don’t waste your time trying to understand the thought process of prejudice people. That’s how you develop ulcers.

In defense of Donald Sterling: He’s had very little experience being a racist in the post season.
