Tina Fey adds Jane Krakowski to Ellie Kemper comedy ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’

Tina Fey’s new NBC comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt just added another fellow 30 Rock alum to its crew. Jane Krakowski will play a recurring role on the new show starring former The Office star Ellie Kemper. Kemper plays Kimmy, who after 15 years of living in a cult decides it’s time to reclaim her life and heads to New York City. Krakowski will play a rich Upper West Side mom who hires Kimmy as a nanny. The role was originally played by Megan Dodds (CSI: New York) in the pilot, but NBC closed a deal with Krakowski when her comedy pilot Dead Boss was not picked up by Fox. This isn’t the first time the comedic actress has replaced someone after a pilot was shot. Her character on 30 Rock was played by former Saturday Night Live cast member Rachel Dratch in the pilot episode. Seems like Fey wanted to stick to a familiar face on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which received a direct-to-series order from NBC before they even shot a pilot!
