CBS has passed on the much-talked about highly-anticipated pilot How I Met Your Dad. The How I Met Your Mother spin-off series dominated trade headlines over the past seven months, including last week when the show was reportedly picked up. CBS executive Nina Tassler commented on Wednesday, “We tried to work out redoing the pilot. That’s not happening right now.” Apparently towards the end of negotiations, CBS wanted the show’s producers, 20th Century Fox Television, to reshoot the pilot. 20th Century Fox reportedly didn’t want to do that without a series commitment. And that was that. The producers could still try to get How I Met Your Dad, which tells the HIMYM story from the female’s point of view, a greenlight at another network. The show was set to star (and be written and executive produced by) Golden Globe nominated actress Greta Gerwig and be narrated by Meg Ryan.
CBS ended up only greenlighting two comedy series this year: family sitcom The McCarthys and midseason reboot The Odd Couple starring Matthew Perry. The McCarthys had its pilot reshot before receiving its series order and CBS is recasting the female leads for The Odd Couple. The Eye Network did release a trailer for upcoming multi-camera sitcom The McCarthys, described by the network as about “when the gay son of a sports-crazed Boston clan decides to fly the coop, his loving family has other plans.” Check out the trailer below!
