Dave Chappelle on Late ShowIn a very rare television appearance Dave Chappelle, who has a string of huge live dates coming up at Radio City Music Hall in New York, tells David Letterman on tonight’s Late Show that he technically never quit Comedy Central’s Chappelle’s Show all those years ago. “Here it is,” Chappelle tells Lettermam. “Techinically I never quit. I’m seven years late to work.” Letterman, who hasn’t interviewed Chappelle in 10 years, had a perfect response: “Boy, are you gonna be in trouble when you go back.” Watch the short clip below– and be sure to tune in to the entire interview tonight at 11:35 pm ET on CBS.

In 2005, Chappelle famously walked away from a $50 million deal with Comedy Central before the third season of Chappelle’s Show premiered. He retreated to South Africa due to the pressure he felt from working on the show.
